Synergy and Branding Cont'd : KESHA

Ke$ha: Animal

Kesha is a well known pop star who broke out into the scene in 2010 with her hit single Tik Tok. Her dress sense, make up and party like antics all represent the Image that she portrays to her audience. Her Debut album Animal reached number 1 in the US billboard 200 and scored 2x Platnium in 3 countries including the UK.

This is the front and back of Ke$ha's album Animal As you can see the colour scheme, photo and even the font represent the 'Party Animal' Image that Ke$ha has branded herself. The font is a type of glittery font and it comes across as sparkling, the colors used are gold purple and blue, these are the only bright colors used on the album so it makes  it stand out. The automatic thought you get when you look at
this album is 'Wild Child' and i think that this is what Ke$ha wanted. On the other hand on the back of the album, the titles of the songs are in gold and they look like they have been hand written by a child which emphasizes the 'Child' in 'Wild Child'. Also the scratching look of the album background makes it look like a battered CD that had been scratched on the floor from a party.
Another thing that Add's to the 'Wild Child' image is ke$ha's hair and make up. On the front cover we see her with gold glittery lipstick and eye liner and this isn't the typical make up that somebody would wear on an average day its the kind of make that you would wear to a party.

TV Ad

This is the advert for her album. Like her album she has the same glittery sparkling font in gold which we see almost instantly, and this runs throughout the advert when a new song plays the glittery gold font appears at the bottom of the screen with the title of the song. Also Ke$ha's sense of style is very continuous in this advert, in almost every clip of her music videos she has this kind of raggedy curly blonde hair, sparklyness is seen everywhere weather its her make or her clothing and we see her in a like party 'having a good time' atmosphere. Also at the end of the trailer the album cover is shown.
Music Video - Animal

In this video we Instantly recognize a common thing that we see in both the album cover and the Tv advert and that is the color gold and the raggedy curly blonde hair. We only get the Party like atmosphere via her outfit and the dance moves, although the colors in the background are really bright and eccentric and could be seen as colors you would see at a club or a party.

Examining the Artist Website

Jessie J

Browsing the Website

This is the Jessie J Official website home page
At the top we see a huge image of her  current image (Bald Head with blonde hair), it seems like this was done purposely to promote her new IMAGE! .

The Banners

At the top of the page there are huge images that promote Jessie'J's Album, Single, Music video's and tours. There are arrows at each side of the image which takes you to the next one. In every image you see a photo of Jessie'j's current look and a statement that reveals something new and exciting as you can see we have 'Download the new album alive now', 'Extra tickets available for UK and Ireland tour', 'Download new single It's my party and 'Watch iT'S MY PARTY VIDEO'. All of these images promote her look and her music through the images and the titles.

Promoting Her music

At the bottom of her home page there is a video blog type thingy which has all of her music videos to date and the latest video would be the biggest one shown, this both promotes her new music and her old music because all the songs are still there.

Other things on the website also help promote the artist, the news page is a page filled with updates on what Jessie J is currently doing, what Tv shows she is appearing on and where she will be performing, by putting this on her website it makes it easier for her fans to follow her up. Also the instablog promotes her personality as we get an insight into her daily life and we see her away from the camera and lights and we see her in a genuine way which would attract even more friends

Appeal of Music Videos to audiences

Music has changed over the years, Before the 21st Century songs and music videos were seen to appeal to both men and woman, young an old (In some cases not the young), there was no particular audience for any song or artist to appeal to the music videos simply applied to all, Lets take a look...

This Bobby Brown video 'Don't Be Cruel' is a perfect example of the point that i made above. This video has no specific Gender audience and it hasn't been made to appeal to anyone, to me it seems like it has been made just to be a really good music video which is what the industry these days are lacking.

Other Examples

21st Century Music Video's
Warning: The following content may contain explicit content

Unlike the music video's above these videos from the years 2003 - present have someway been manipulated to appeal to a different Genre audiences
Appeal to Men:

Appeal to Women

I guess the Male demand has over taken the music industry these days, As you can see the videos that appeal to men always include passive women (Just like what Laura Mulvey says) and the majority of music videos appealed to women often include hidden messages about life, For me it was quite hard to think of any music videos that were appealed to women.

Playing Both Sides??

I would say that this video from the Pussycat dolls plays both sides because it's clearly visible that the music appeals to guys but when you listen to the lyrics the group sings to what seems to be a female audience.

               Mariah Carey 2008

Artists and there Music Video types

Young Female Artist
These are a few music videos from young female artists and as you can see the videos often include fair's or parties or a lot of other young people in the background doing something fun

Young Male Artist's
Young Male Artist's music videos often include bright colors that symbolizes there youth, They also have other young female characters who they sing to.

Pop Sensations (Girls)
Pop sensations such as these two artist will usually have big production shoots, Unlike any realistic music videos these are videos that are flooded with green screening, and computer edited effects.

Pop Sensation (Boys)
Just like the pop sensational girls the boys usually have big production music videos aswell with well choreographed dance moves.

British Artist's
With British songs, they look to be kept british like the two videos above you can see that they are based/set on British streets and the overall themes of the videos are quite british.
