Duo's
Rizzle Kicks- Down With The Trumpets
I think the chemistry between the Rizzle Kicks is valuable to their brand and an example of this can be seen in their music video Down With The Trumpets.
Image 1 Image 2
In all of the shots the duo are together, I think the use of different colour pallets from dark to light works nicely, we could use this in our video as the singing part its quite sentimental whilst the rap is more upbeat and has more of a punch to it.
Image 3
The use of levels also kept the shots interesting rather than constantly side by side. I think stairs is a good way to level two people in the same shot so we will be using stairs in one of our locations.
I think the use of editing in this shot was creative and will work well in our video, we hope to achieve something similar.
Location
Coldplay- Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall/One Direction- One Thing
As we are sticking to an Urban London theme, I think this Coldplay video is a perfect example of some of the types of locations we can use in our music videos.
Image 1 Image 2
I think the colourful graffiti helps capture the street style feel we are looking to accomplish in our video. In image 2 the lead singer in in an underground skate park, I feel the pillars in places like skate parks and car parks make good backdrops for those kinds of settings so will be effective in out video.
Image 3 Image 4
I think the close ups used in images 3 and 4 are effective and simple. By getting close ups of the settings gritty features it gives the viewer a different perspective on art, in any other scenario these close ups would be unattractive but with a splash of paint they are now interesting and that is how graffiti art has turned given a different view on lower class areas around London.
Image 5 Image 6
I think the long and medium shots used in these images are great as the move fast pace with the music and give you a variety of shots of the scenery.
Image 7 Image 8
The neon shots in these scenes are artistic and different. Like the graffiti hey also stand as a metaphor of City life paying ode to the infamous rave culture. Our young audience can relate to this and I think it we could incorporate something similar into out video.
As well as urban culture we'd also like to incorporate iconic London landmarks like in this One Direction video.
Image 1 Image 2
e.g. In images one and two we see the Big Ben being the London Bridge...
Image 3 Image 4
And in images 2 and 3 there are nice group shots of the band against landmarks, the shot of St. Paul's Cathedral is a good night time shot which we might try and incorporate.
Relationships
N- Dubz - I Swear
The subject of our song is based on a break up between a young woman and her boyfriend. This is also the subject of the song I Swear by N- Dubz, I was influenced by this music video because I feel the scenes between lead vocalist Tulisa and the boy playing her boyfriend are realistic and effective.
Image 1 Image 2
Following the characters love story makes the audience empahise with the couple causing them to become emotionally involved. In image two the use of over the shoulder shot helps show us that we can see from the boys point of view, we can see that his body is dominant over hers whilst she has her arms down in a more meek helpless position. This shot helps tell us a lot about relationship as it is able to show us both characters body language.
Image 3 Image 4
The long shots in images 3 and 4 also allow us to see the location allowing a backdrop to fit the narration of the scene which helps add to the story. We can also see that Tulisa is dressed in urban street wear which is something we have decided to keep in mind given our sung genre and audience.
Image 5
The use of props was also very effective in this video, the smashing of the picture frame added dramatic effect and dramatised the scene. This has influenced to use props such a mobile phones/other sentimental items to highlight the seriousness of the break up e.g. giving back jewelry.
Image 6 Image 7
In image six I think the use of close ups helps call attention to Tulia's heartbreak and this will be effective in our music video. Image seven is a group shot of the band, I think the use of the spotlight at nighttime gives of a great effect and it will look good with out duo in our video as we also want to shoot at night.
