Neon Jungle - Trouble
Genre - Pop
Use of Costume
The total of Costume changes throughout the video is 2. Often the choruses are in the same costume. The main lyrics of this song is 'I dont look for trouble but trouble looks for me', the video is set at a house party and is located in a house, because the clothes that the girls wear are bright, colourful and eccentric they go well with the lyrics and the setting because they are clothes that people would wear to a party. These costumes do link to this genre because you see these types of costumes in pop videos quite often.
Costume in typical Pop Videos
Use of Setting and Location
This video is shot in 6 different locations, these are a front porch, a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom, a hallway and a normal room with a yellow backdrop. These locations haven't really got a link to the band's costume but because the video is set at a house party they kind of make sense. And it is quite typical for pop videos to be set at parties, kesha is a really good example of this.
Use of Props
The props that can be seen in this video are balloons, house ornaments, jewelery, perfume, bikes etc.. Some of these props could be seen as typical to the pop genre as in majority of pop videos you do see some of these props and they link to the lyrics and locations because they are all things that you would see at a house party.
Beyonce - Naughty Girl
Genre - R&B
Use of Costume
The total of costume changes in this video is 5, every new chorus and verse leads to a new costume change. The most common lyrics in this video is 'Tonight I'll be your naughty girl', and the video is set in a night club. The costumes most definitely link to the lyrics and location, most of the costumes that you see Beyonce wearing are tight short dresses alongside suspenders and heels which are quite revealing and shows of her curves, these costumes most definitely show that she is a 'naughty girl'. Because these costumes have a classy touch i wouldn't really say that they are typical of the R&B genre because most R&B artist wear quite exposing outfits that aren't so classy.
Throughout the video the location is set in a club and the shots look like they are in the same place but in different rooms, the location links to the costume because when women go to clubs or strip clubs it leads them to wear quite exposing clothing and this is seen in this video. The way that the video links to the genre is through the club/strip club. Its quite common for R&B music videos to be shot in clubs.
Use of Props
The props that we see in this video include, cigar's, Alcohol and bags, these are all common in R&B videos.
Duke Dumont - Need you 100
Genre - House
Use of Costume
The total costume changes in this video is 10. Unlike the other videos the costume changes doesnt link to the verse chorus verse structure as th story is doing its own thing and every new location comes a new costume. The costume links to the locations because it has been styled to wherever the protagonist is, e.g. when the guy is at home in the kitchen he is wearing casual clothing and when he is on the beach he is wearing an outfit that a man would wear to the beach. The outfits dont link to the lyrics though as the lyrics are 'Need you 100' and the outfits have no relation. I think the dancing in this video is typical of this genre because house music is a genre that is basically made for dancing and in almost every house music video there is somebody dancing.
Use of setting, location and Props
In this video there are 10 different locations, the setting and location link to the costumes because every new location comes a new costume and that costume has been designed to suit the location, this also applies to the props, the props that have been used are suited for that location.
