Andrew Goodwin: The Theory

Andrew Gooodwin gathered that music videos do not follow the traditional structure of TV/film and does so through the following ways-

1: Thought Beats
Music videos allow us to see the song in our heads we can match the chorus to an image and identify the song with the video. In the narrative of a music video the singer is the story teller making us as an audience feel more interactive with the artist as we sit and listen allowing us to identify a song with a video, for future references.

2: Narrative and Performance
Goodwin believes that all music videos should ignore common narrative as the story of a song usually gets lost in the video, he believes that all videos should have a form of repetitive order  through narrative and performance as they work hand in hand and make it easier for the audience to watch scenes repeated without getting bored.

3: The Star Image
A lot of the time the artist will be very interactive with the camera looking straight down the lens this helps the audience identify with the artist. Meta narrative helps defy the artists journey over time.

4: Relation of Visuals to Song

 The 3 Relations:

Disjuncture- Meaning of song is completely disregarded

Amplify- Effects are manipulated and constantly shown through the video

Illustration- The video uses set images to outline the meaning of lyrics and genre
