Carol Vernallis: Editing&Camera Work

Carol Vernallis studied camera work and editing, in her studies she came to the conclusion that there was a vast difference in the amount of editing in music videos compared to film...

examples of this are seen in the Black Eyed Pea's video 'Boom Boom Pow'. Through green screen and special effects the band are made to look as it they are in an alternative digital format. Throughout the video various animation is used for example the futuristic speakers and alternative dancers.

More specifically in these gifs we can see that jump cut editing and fast pace zoom is used it would otherwise be impossible for the singer to move in sync with the heavy fast beat, enabling base track. The green surrounding singer Fergie made to make her look futuristic and draw further attention to her and are also fitting to the base track.

The use of zoom here allows the audience to become familiar with Fergie as she interacts with the camera and overall the fast paces editing makes the video more entertaining and fitted to the theme of the music.
